Happy Haunts

Happy Halloween from Wonderland!
We decided this year, that our family would be the characters from Alice in Wonderland--from Tim Burton movie.

Jabberwocky

by Lewis Carroll

T'was brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwck, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought--
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of fame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O fabjours day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'T was brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Our brave and lovely Alice

The most adorable White Rabbit--a rabbit in a waist coat.

He's late! He's late for a very important date!
Zander was asleep when Jed and I put on our make-up. When he woke up he was absolutely terrified and ran from us. I kept telling him that we were Mom and Dad, but he wanted nothing to do with us. He warmed up a bit when I had Elle come hug me and to tell him that it was Mom, but he still was little hesitent. By the end of the night though, he kept saying, "Mom and Dad funny!"

If you are not familiar with the movie, this is the queen of hears--or the red queen.

Your way, my dear? Always my way!! OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!
"What a regrettably large head you have. I would very much like to hat it. I used to hat the White Queen, you know. Poor dear. Her head was so small."
My costume is one that we have had around for years. I like that I can use it for a specific character now. The only thing I bought for my get up was the tiny crown. We had leftover red hairspray from Elle's Strawberry Shortcake costume last year and I had plenty of paint and make-up in our stash.

I had quite a time putting Jed's costume together. I found the jacket and pants--you can't see them really well, but the pants are purple pin striped pants--from a thrift store. I'm not suppose to mention that they are women's clothing, but I'm going to anyway! The vest is the one Jed wore on our wedding day--it's good to get it out of the closest every now and then. And the pink dress shirt is one Jed wears on a weekly basis. I made the thread bandolier from my stash of sewing supplies. The ribbons hanging out of his pocket are also from my stash. I bought the fabric and made a bow tie, and sewed lace on the cuffs with some lace that I originally got to make Elle some puffy socks with. We bought the wig and the top hat. I used some left over orange ribbon to tie around it. IMHO it turned out awesome!

And this is the Mad Hatter played by Johnny Depp.

"There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery and danger! Some say to survive it, you need to be as mad as a hatter...which luckily I am."
